Challenge and Constraints

Challenge and Constraints

In one week, produce a logo, brand direction, and redesigned landing page for a major regional law firm. Requirements included:

Clean, modern, simplified design

Updated logo with logo mark

A landing page that communicates clarity, professionalism, and trust

Deliver a usable prototype at the end of the sprint

This project was intentionally time-boxed to demonstrate how I make decisions quickly, prioritize what matters, and maintain quality under pressure

Project Overview

Joseph, Hollander & Craft (JHC) is a respected Heartland law firm with a strong reputation, but a dated visual identity and a website that no longer reflected the firm’s professionalism. For this design sprint, I was given a high-level brief to rebrand the firm and create a modernized landing page.

The sprint goal: ideate quickly, explore multiple directions, make fast decisions, and deliver a functional, high-fidelity landing page prototype within one week.

This sprint allowed me to demonstrate how I work under time constraints, handle ambiguity, and turn loosely defined goals into a polished, strategic outcome.

Objectives

Branding

Explore updates to the existing blue and gold color palette

Create a modern, professional logo with icon

Establish cleaner, more cohesive brand direction

Experience

Redesign landing page experience to feel simple, modern, and less cluttered

Improve readability and visual hierarchy

Deliver a functional, high-fidelity landing page prototype

Deliverables

Logo sketches and final vector logo design

Quick branding guidelines

Responsive landing page concept

Prototype demonstrating intended behaviors

All deliverables were completed in roughly five working sessions across one week.

Day 1

Research and Rapid Insight Gathering

Research and Rapid Insight Gathering

Research and Rapid Insight Gathering

Goals

Understand the existing JHC website

Identify pain points in branding and UX

Capture quick competitive references

Findings

Heavy text above the fold makes it difficult to scan

Visual clutter with too many elements competing

Outdated logo and limited scalability

Lacked a cohesive visual system

Above the fold, the original site combines heavy text with competing images and menus. Without hierarchy, users must process too many elements at once. As a result, the first impression feels overwhelming rather than clear.

The original page tries to present too many visual elements at once. Without a unified structure or rhythm, nothing stands out and everything feels equally loud. This results in a busy interface that lacks a clear point of focus.

The original logo uses thin lines and intricate letter forms that don't scale well. At smaller resolutions, the details become hard to read and lose impact. It's dated styling also doesn't match the modern, professional tone the firm needs.

From these insights, I defined core sprint principles: simplify, modernize, clarify, strengthen trust.

Landing Page Design and Prototype

Landing Page Design and Prototype

Wireframes (Sketches for Fast Iteration)

I created loose wireframes focusing on:

Clean, readable structure

Clear sections: How We Help, Our Values, Attorneys, Contact

Strong hierarchy and spacing

High-Fidelity Design

Converted wireframes into polished UI:

Modern hero section with subtle background video

Defined brand voice and typography

Gold accents used intentionally for hierarchy

Simplified content blocks

Clear calls to action

Prototype

Built a limited prototype in Figma showcasing layout behavior and interaction intent. Then expanded on that prototype in Framer.
